The Lion Inside

For anyone that knew me during my school years, you probably remember as being this shy, quiet kid. I was painfully shy. I was very smart, but I didn’t like to be called on in class. I hated the thought of knowing all eyes were on me. The only exception to that was my dance recitals and playing basketball. Somehow in these two things I was able to tune out the rest of the world and forget they were looking at me.

As I got older I realized that I wanted so much more in life. In fact, in my mind I was going to someday be star or at least married to one. But even beyond being a star I wanted a career not just a job. I wanted to be boss. Not because the title holds weight, but because I wanted to be in a position to help people. I knew I couldn’t be successful being shy and quiet. I had to let the lion out.

I slowly evolved into the Kei I am now. People that have known me since living in Greensboro will tell you I’m definitely not shy, but I still have that quiet side. I knew in order to evolve I had to get out that shell. As I evolved my dreams got bigger and so did my goals. I’m finally to the point now, im doing things that should have been done 10years ago.

I encourage everyone to find the lion inside of you. We all have weakness and areas in life that make us uncomfortable. But those areas could actually be what makes you strong. I was the kid who hated answering questions in class and now I love public speaking. I want my voice to be heard. I want to be in the spotlight. Back then you couldn’t have paid me to be opinionated. Now I have an opinion on everything. Step out of your shell and your comfort zone. I promise you it will help you grow. The lion inside of me has placed me in positions I never dreamed of.

Visions come true

I want to applaud these  young beautiful ladies. Not only are they full time moms, but they have worked hard to fulfill their dreams. I am so proud of each of them and I know that the best is yet to come to them. All three are great examples of what happens when hard word, dedication and faith mix together.

Paris is doing her thing modeling, singing and acting. She is so talented and has a stage presence that belongs in Hollywood. Her sprit is so humble and she is so deserving of what’s coming. Beyoncé your competition is here. Her story is amazing and will make a best seller one day.

Deshanta has a passion for writing and has a way with words. If you need a grant written, help with a resume or even tutoring for your kids, check her out. She is so smart and  has so much knowledge to share at a young age.

Shatera has had a love for party planning since I can remember. She is so gifted and it’s so amazing watching her visions come to life. Make sure you hit her up for your party needs. She will make it an event to remember.

These ladies have my support 100% and I encourage you to support them. Check out more information on each lady below.

A letter to my daughter

Dear Taliyah,

It’s the eve before your 15th birthday and I know you’re super excited. I’m excited as well. 15 years of experiencing true love for me.

Where do I start? 15 years ago, I had no clue how to take care of a baby. I couldn’t even take care of myself and I was so scared. But you came, and we made it. You know me better than anyone. You know my struggles, you know my tears, you know my heartbreak. You know how hard I worked to get us here.

Because of you I grew into the woman I am today. I made so many mistakes. But you still loved and always looked at me like I was the best. You and my mother have been the only people that I felt loved me and stayed. I was so angry and hurt when my dad died, but you filled that void. You’re truly everything to me. I don’t know where I would be without you. It was just you and I for so long.

I know at times I’m very hard on you, but I want you to be so much better than I am. I don’t want to see you make my mistakes. You are so smart and I know you can be anything you want to be. You make mistakes, you drive me crazy but I would never love you any less. I know God has something special for you.

You are a super big sister and Skye is lucky to have you. She looks up to you so much and admires you. She mirrors everything that you do. I know she annoys you, but she loves you more.

So in closing I just pray that you keep God first and stay focus. Keep your mind in books and on your dreams. Baby girl you can be whatever you want to be. Know that I’m always going to be with you cheering you on. You’ll be 15 in a few hours, but you will forever be my first baby girl!

I love you ❤️

Love always,

Mommy

Hall Pass

A couple of months ago, Memphis revealed that Toya gave him 8 day “hall passes” during their marriage. During this he could do what he wanted with who he wanted. Now if you know me you know I love Toya, she’s my sister in my mind. So I tried to understand, but I couldn’t. This couldn’t be real, I couldn’t phantom it.

So within the last month I have been approached by two guys with no relation at all to each other. Both asked me if we could go out sometimes. Now with the first guy I hesitated and asked if he still had a girlfriend. He responded yes, and explained they had an open relationship and he could do what he wanted as long as she knew. Of course this was crazy to me. It blew my mind that less then a week later another guy tells me the same thing. I clearly turned them both down nicely.

This generation is absolutely insane to me. What happened to the values of a relationship. Women now feel like if men are going to cheat, it’s okay as long as they know. I feel like I was born in the wrong era and I will forever be single. In my eyes there is nothing okay with this.

First of all, I’m too jealous to share my man with anyone. Second with all the diseases who would want to share. I just wish relationship values would resurface. One man and one woman. Nothing more!

To my future man, you will never ever get a hall pass. You either with me and only me, or leave me alone. I’d rather be single than sharing.

What are your thought on a hall pass in a relationship?

Exes becoming Friends

We all woke up to the Internet buzzing with pictures of Kim K and Amber Rose. It’s been reported that Kim reached out to Amber and declared a truce. Of course everyone has their opinions.

With me I can relate. There have been females I hated because they were either from  a previous relationship or  my exes new boo. But, today I’m proud to say I have no beef with no one. I’ve even hung out with a a couple. It took alot of maturing but it can be done and be real.

Now I really want to believe that these two women have made peace. However, I think the Kardashians are opportunist and will use anything to remain in the spotlight. I’m far from a Kardashian hater, but I think they use anything and anyone to their advantage.

Now the fact that Kanye is dropping an album soon raises red flags. I love Kanye’s song “Real Friends. However these two becoming “friends” is the perfect publicly stunt. Not to mention his beef with Wiz this week and the relationship between Blac Chyna and Rob. This family is all over the place. They are making sure to stay in the media at any expense.

I’m all for women empowerment, togetherness  and lifting each other up. So if this real, it is a very classy act on Kim K’s part.

What are your thoughts?

Girl Boss: Jennifer Bowles

In this generation the term “boss” is used way to loosely. I admire the hard work and ambition of many women and men. But “boss” is a title that’s earned.

This is black history month and I can’t go without acknowledging one of the smartest black women I know. A real “girl boss”: Miss Jennifer Bowles!

At the age of 25, Jennifer was not only elected to city council, but she was also elected Vice-Mayor of the city of Martinsville. Jennifer became the youngest person to serve in Martinsville history. She is a graduate of University of Virginia where she majored in African American Studies, was a former softball player and a member of the Black Student Alliance. Jennifer is a member of the West Piedmont District Planning Commission and founder  of the Martinsville chapter of the Millennials.

She is the true definition of a boss and I have so much respect for her. In a city that is often plagued by violence and negativity, she is a breath of fresh air and a great role model to our kids. She’s  proof  that you can be anything you want to be, including a 25 year old Vice Mayor.

So just know that no matter where you are from, how old or young you are, or what odds may be against you… You to can be a positive influence and make black history.
